Rosa Faenskap - Ingenting forblir (2026) Review

Rosa Faenskap Ingenting forblir album cover 2026

When did contemporary Norwegian black metal shift from corpse-painted despotism to more reflexive frameworks? Rosa Faenskap's sophomore album Ingenting forblir (= nothing endures) challenges the country's sonic tradition while not completely abandoning it, in what is a continuum of dark hardcore / post-black metal with a distinct Nordic genealogy. Having been oblivious of the trio's debut Jeg blir til deg (2023), I grappled with the record without knowing what to expect, which certainly wasn't this hybridization of tremolo worship, clean guitar diffusion and temporal undulation that consistently draws from multiple stylistic reservoirs (doom, prog, post-rock, punk) even with pure black metal as the anchor of its formalism.

Opening piece "Den svake mannen" is the instructive example of the band's methodology, tinkering shoegaze-like guitar lines on a path that gradually moves in heavier doom / black metal aggression. Some of the most characteristic Norwegian outcries can be found on the first notes of "Faenskap for alltid" (and later, also on "Bygg til himmelen", but of course not exclusively), but they never overstay their welcome. Punk-inflected vocals and abrupt tempo shifts, frequently switching with more layered post-rock breaks, felt to me like Rosa Faenskap consciously attempts to re-situate black metal within the family tree of radical underground music, and maybe wash some of the stain away.

The album's concept truly is the hottest punchline here. Where's the misanthropy, where's the pagan romanticism or the glorification of death? The band's intensity of expression has political concerns, with lyrics about social injustice and rising hatred, environmental worry and queer liberation. This alone will stir the pot enough for Ingenting forblir to be discussed, but it's engaging enough from a musicological perspective to grant at least the basic level of acknowledgement. Momentum of hardcore-boosted black metal across instances of ambient, almost cosmic interludes on "La barna leve" and "Klarhet i kaos" keeps the attention and never lets the dance between genres to quiet down.

One of my favorite moments on the album is the gloomy acoustic guitar introduction of "Famler i hatet", as well as the continuation in tormenting, mostly middle-paced speed and howling vocals, which randomly reminded me of another track by the Danish dark hardcore band Église, named "Have I Become Hell". Possibly not related anywhere else except my brain, but they do fit in the same playlist. Ingenting forblir covers an emotional range from despair to optimism, most notably in the almost ten-minute closing track "Jeg våkner snart", where the band accumulates all the rhythm and distortion it can to finish things off in a form of cleansing. It's one of the most demanding pieces but flows nicely, as does the whole of the record.

Apart from the elephant in the room, which will not be commented further, this is how experimentation and unrest can result in an album's benefit. Rosa Faenskap's musical multiplicity lifts them above the average blackgaze atmospheric wash. It gets its hands dirty when it needs to despite the apparent eclecticism meant to scare off black metal's bad boys. Some changes did feel a bit sudden, and some softer instances stretched, but the excitement doesn't reduce when listening to it. I could say, as exciting as hearing what people would have to say about it.

Door to Door Promotion: Propast & Dementia Senex & This Place Is A Zoo

These releases were sent to me via email and they are posted by request.

Propast - Věstnik Preispodnji [EP]
Black Metal from Serbia

Straightforward black metal with chilling production and great harsh vocals and satanic content. The band has only released this EP for now and it contains a Graveland cover too, which is pinpointing their style, in the likes of any slavic black metal band. Lyrics and titles in Serbian.

Dementia Senex - Heartworm [EP]
Death Metal / Sludge / Doom Metal / Post-Hardcore from Italy

Dementia Senex is a project that was started, and keeps getting developed over the years; from 2008 to 2011 the band, which was at an embryonic stage, slowly started to grow. The band got to play with bands such as Ulcerate (NZ), Svart Crown (FR), Fleshgod Apocalypse, Putridity, Fuck The Facts (CAN), Murder Therapy and The Modern Age Slavery... achieving good visibility in the Italian underground death metal scene. In 2012 Dementia Senex feels highly motivated and has already started performing live. A new repertory, much different and meaningful; a sick mix of death metal, post core and doom is ready to be played.

This Place Is A Zoo - People Movers [Single]
Experimental Metal / Hardcore / Electronic from the US

A track from the upcoming This Place Is A Zoo album could possibly be described from the very band name, when it brings different styles and sounds together to create this uplifting and party-like music. These guys have released a full album in 2011 named A Good Time and an EP in 2012 named It's A Fucking Tree. Fun banging.

Australasia - Vertebra

The band described their music as post-rock with elements of post-black metal and vintage electronica. This is exactly what this album sounds like and it's one of the most amazing post related records I've heard this year (even though I don't dig too deep into these genres). There are breathtaking piano lines, nostalgic melodies, Alcest-like heavy moments and generally a breath of fresh air compared to the repetitiveness of other bands. Australasia prefer lot's of short songs (4-5 minutes) instead of long tiring ones and this keeps the interest alive through the album, and thank the gods it's instrumental. Apart from some ethereal female chants, there are no vocals in the album whatsoever and that is so much better, leaving the listener with a lot of space to imagine, think and dream  with the music. The electronic additions come and go and often have the leading role of the song, while the guitar work is accurate, well written and meticulous in it's entirety. I can only think of positive things to happen to these guys in the future. A unique album from fans and not only.

Sokushinbutsu - Holy Ground

First of all, I like this band's logo. It's great. The music is a chaotic, intense piece of grindcore / death metal, combining the speedy and brutal lines of typical goregrind / grindcore with pure death metal vocals instead of ass gnarling that actual grind bands use. There are even doomy passages that remind of Autopsy (I'm positive that any slower part I lately listen to in death metal reminds me of them) like the one in "Nail Through the Immortal Hand" and "Skorne" I liked this more than a lot of respected bands in that genre and it definitely worths your time if you're into stuff like that. Some elements of dirty hardcore and powerviolence are also out and about in the record. Short but really cool.

All Pigs Must Die - Nothing Violates This Nature (2013) Review

All Pigs Must Die "Nothing Violates This Nature"
Summer 2013, Southern Lord Records

Hardcore is not my thing, and i generally avoid any bands that fall under that label. Typical hardcore bands like Terror, Agnostic Front or Sick Of It All have nothing to give me at all. I saw this album labeled Dark Hardcore somewhere, which is something i might give a chance once in a while. All Pigs Must Die is a project by members of Converge, The Hope Conspiracy and Bloodhorse.

Hopefully, they indeed take the straight-edge culture hardcore sound to darker paths, since by itself its unbearable to me. The band name is catchy, the album title is catchy, lets get on with it. From my point of view, this is a hell of an album to headbang to. These guys know their way around making hardcore melodies powerful and there is finally a voice i can stand, these sweet shouting vocals. The flirt with extremety, having ounces of grindcore here and there, their music is assaulting and pleasing to the ear. I can even hear some blackmetalish riffs in some parts, especially the introduction of "Of Suffering" or "Bloodlines". Always a good thing.

In general, the album is groundbreaking and skull crushing, i didn't see it coming at all. My eyes fell off while i was listening. Not because this is a musical extravaganza or a demostration of magnificent and complex musicianship, its just that they have hit the heart of the music they're playing, they have composed a very good album around it, with personal additions in the lyrics and the songs. Im gonna be replaying this a lot until i get sick of it.
